I think that point of the asifa was supposed to be that there are ways to safeguard the family from the bad that is on the internet. Unfortunately logging on to news or shopping for clothes online sometimes brings up pictures of immodest people. For frum Jews this is problematic and needs to be confronted and solved. Obviously if we can be listening to divrei Torah while taking a power walk and still be watching out for cars or bumps in the road, it is better than walking around mindlessly. The other side of the story though, is that if internet shiurim take the place of meeting with others in the community to learn, then we lose our sense of community and we as Jews need a community to survive as Jews.
